In this session, Ustadji asks each student to identify the khat (script) in a select image of a calligraphy written by a Master, and emphasises the need to be able to visually identify a khat.
The basic Arabic alphabet consists of 28 letters - all consonants - so the Arabic alphabet is classified as an abjad. Another important feature of the script is the lack of distinction between uppercase and lowercase letters - characters are written through the continuous movement of the pen.
